This thread is to describe my retrofit of an Emco PC Mill 50. I picked up the mill in February of '17 from an auction at a local university. The guy that ran the shop said he hadn't seen it run in the 10 years he had been there. It came with a bunch of tool holders, manuals, and even a CD and floppy disk that supposedly had the Emco software on it.

Ask for a photo of the serial number so you can contact Emco about specifics. There seems to be a lot of scams on small mills. Everything looks identical except this spare stepper driver board for the pc mill 50 has an extra axis, the "y" axis of course, now i was wondering if i can swap the stepper driver in my pc turn, for the pc mill one and utilize an additional axis. Would this work or is there something im missing. Ive even picked up a couple 5 phase steppers. Help.

Emco PC Turn 55 retrofit was created by The Feral Engineer. Got myself a new toy last week. Picked up an Emco pc turn 55 with 8 position turret for 425 bucks. No controller, so swapped the ac95 board with a mesa 7i76ed, interfaced with the 3 phasen sm karte with an idc16 ribbon cable breakout board and got the motors to move pretty easily.

The standard mill has an external computer that sends rs485 to the mill, which uses an internal computer (the Y4A015000 module) to generate steps (for the three axis controller) and a pdm signal (for the spindle VFD controller).
